Long Before the tavern stood, a wandering adventurer discovered a curious chest in the ruins of a fallen wizard’s tower. Naturally, he tried to open it.

It tried to eat him.

After barely escaping with his fingers intact, the adventurer felt a kinship with the creature, for he too, was very hungry. He went hunting and tried feeding it and discovered that the mimic would occasionally wink one of its many eyes when pleased.

The mimic followed the adventurer for years on his adventures. Winters turned to summers and the adventurer grew tired of wandering the kingdoms. He returned to where he found his loyal mimic to find a bustling village!

They took the opportunity and put down roots, setting up the tavern ‘Ye Mimic’s Wink’ a few roads from the wizard tower where Mimic was once found (it is now a library). The mimic now guards the cellar and entertains the patrons by shifting into different furniture. They say if you leave a gold piece on the bar for the Mimic, you’ll have good luck the next day.
